The amount of waste and residue material is increasing all the time causing environmental problems and emissions. Circular economy where wastes and residues are used as feedstock material for producing valuable products for different purposes can be a part of a solution for waste problem together with material efficiency and recycling.

St1 have developed processes to utilize waste material in the production of biofuels, bioproducts and biochemicals. Especially when waste and residue material from forest industry are utilized as feedstocks, valuable fine chemical components have been produced as side streams of biofuel production. These wood based fine chemical components could be applicable to biocosmetic products by further processing.

This presentation gives information about new potential sources for biobased fully vegan cosmetic ingredients which does not compete with food chain.
